Accommodation, New Zealand
Accommodation in New Zealand comes at very high standard. The tourism industry is extremely well developed and no matter what part of the country you go to you will find a range of accommodation to suit all budgets. The major cities like Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch have a huge amount on offer. Everything from backpacker hostels through hotels, motels, resorts and self serviced apartments are available in bulk. In high end tourist destinations like Queenstown, Rotorua, the Bay of Islands, Lake Taupo, etc there is also plenty on offer and the range is excellent.
New Zealand is a popular tourist destination so it is wise to select the standard of accommodation you want and then book well in advance. There are hundreds of extended tours operating at any given time and these tend to soak up the available accommodation, especially in the major resort towns. New Zealand also has a well developed bed and breakfast industry and these are usually available for travelers on the road.
Queenstown accommodation is probably the best developed as very few tourists do not include it in their itinerary. There is a lot to choose from but remember that Queenstown is just as busy during the summer as it is during the skiing season. Most accommodation in Queenstown takes advantage of the spectacular views on offer.
The town is set in a valley on the shores of Lake Wakatipu and the whole valley is surrounded by snow capped mountains. It is the jumping off point for most of the South Islands major ski fields. Along the lake front there is a wide selection of resorts and apartments and the holiday ambience is fantastic. There is probably no better view in the world than the view from a Queenstown lake front apartment.
Many tourists in New Zealand choose to travel by campervan or motor home and this means that they carry their accommodation with them. This is a highly popular alternative and there are many high quality parks at all the best locations so that you will always have a great place to stay. Remember that the golden rule when travelling in New Zealand is to book your accommodation as early as you can.
